To the beach! A weekend in {Almería}

Hello all! So 2013 has been good to me so far... I've picked up seven new private English classes with a total of 26 students, not to mention a substantial addition to my monthly income ;) Oh and I got to visit the beach... in January! Go figure. But it turns out doubling my hours working also limits my free time (again, go figure) so I'm going to keep this post short and sweet.

Faced with a cold, rainy, windy weekend here in Linares, a friend and I decided to plan a spontaneous weekend trip to the coastal capital of Almería. And the weather there treated us kindly... 65 degrees and sunny all weekend! Not yet swimming season, we spent our time visiting city monuments, eating our fair share of tapas and strolling along the {totally empty} beaches. These photos are the artistic result of our wanderings.

Have I mentioned? I love flowers :)

Wish we could claim this sandcastle for our own. These guys are artists.

Ice cream sundae on the beach in January? Oh yeah.
Ham legs and wine at a tapas bar... típico.
A flamenco trio playing a concert in.. a cave? Why not!
At the local food market the next morning...
too bad we couldn't take this beauty home with us.
First strawberry of the season!
(with the obligatory finger for perspective ;)
The Alcázar (Moorish castle) in Almería capital
View from the alcázar
A nice mix of old and new to make a beautiful landscape.
A view across the valley from the alcázar
Entrance to the alcázar
Love Spanish buildings and Andalusian blue skies
Just another Spanish street :)
Look what we found! A marching band playing in a plaza.
Lunch at a tetería (Spanish-Moroccan tea shop)
The beach headed towards Cabo de Gata

My first views of the Mediterranen
A beach near San José
Beach houses in San José... rough life huh?

Almería has a micro-desert, thus the cactuses.
More of, what else, the BEACH! (and once again, empty)
Awesome rock formations on the beach
Coolest sand ever
We ended the day with tapas at a bar looking out over... this.
Perfect getaway weekend? I'd say so :)
